Fall rain clings to stems /
and leaves clinging to summer’s /
warm, fading promise.

Fall
Fall paints the maple, /
a blush of red to its summer green. /
Then the bright leaves fall.

The wild
The wild heart still lives, /
among the tamed yards it prowls, /
its eyes summer bright.

Summer’s passing
Bare heads hang empty, /
stalks and leaves brown and crispy. /
Spiders claim briskly.

Latte-dah
Summer is over, so Starbucks declares, /
bringing forth their fall pumpkin wares. /
Temperatures still roiling across the US. /
When they will break is anybody’s guess. /
Hurricanes hit California and other coasts, /
but Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Latte Starbucks boasts. /
It may be 69 days until Halloween /
but this declaration seems self-serving and a bit obscene.
